Edward Amory was serving as the Left Waist Gunner on the B-17F "Flying Fortress" known as "Sky Queen" when it encountered enemy fire over The Netherlands and crashed near the town of Opende. Amory and the rest of the crew were returning from a mission over Kassel, Germany, where there was an airplane factory.
