James M. McCloud served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Major in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was wounded while leading his men when the Americans crossed the Soissons-Arras road during the offensive. He was wounded in the left arm and the left side by machine gun bullets but after receiving first aid he continued fighting. The major was killed soon afterwards by a high explosive shell on July 19, 1918. He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
