When Raymond Davis Upson was born on November 24, 1896, in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, his father, Edmon, was 31 and his mother, Mary, was 25. He had two brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company B, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 8, 1918 (at the age of 21) and is now buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brooklyn, Green County, Wisconsin, USA. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Upton.
