Both airmen were killed in Austria during WW2 while flying bombing missions from Italy.
Staff Sergeant Vincent J. Marimpietri was the Assistant Engineer/Gunner on B-24 (42-52318) 'Naughty Angel' of the 757th Bomber Squadron, 459th Bomber Group, 15th US Air Force. On June 9, 1944 flying from Guilia, Italy, his plane was on a mission to bomb Munich and was shot down by enemy fighters over Lienz; he was killed parachuting out of the plane. The rest of the crew survived. (MACR 6179)
Staff Sergeant Jerome Resler was a crew member of B-24 (42-51285) 'Got-to-hav-it' of the 760th Bomber Squadron, 460th Bomber Group, 15th US Air Force. On November 22, 1944 he was on a bombing mission to Salzburg, Austria flying from Spinazzola, Italy when his plane was shot down by flak over Lienz. He survived the jump out of the plane only to succumb to wounds 10 days later in an Austrian hospital on December 2, 1944. (MACR 5597)
