Monument


A carved piece of stone about 6 feet tall with an inscribed plaque attached to the front.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Furr commanded the 3rd Battalion, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division.  On September 25, 1944, LTC Furr lead his battalion attacking this position.  The attack was met with a furious defense and LTC Furr fell in battle.  Trenches are still visible in the area.  The monument was placed by the town of Castel del Rio in a celebration with LTC Furr’s family in 1994.
