The site includes one memorial that marks the location where a Battalion Commander fell in battle along the Gothic Line in September 1944.

The site is located just below the peak of Monte Pratolungo (838m) in a saddle along a trail (CAI 717); the trail is known as the Passo del Colonello (Colonel’s Pass) along the Gothic Line near the borders of the regions of Emelia-Romagna and Tuscany. The site is located south of the town of Castel del Rio (where the Gothic Line Museum is located). Trail head is south of town following SP 610 to the hamlet of Sant Andrea for about 4-5 kilometers. Trail begins in Sant Andrea (Chiesa di Sant Andrea). The monument is located in an area known locally as Poggio Guro.
