At the main center of the memorials.

Monument

The monument honors the crews of the IX Troop Carrier Command of the U.S. Ninth Air Force who transported American paratroopers during the D-Day airborne operations of Operation Overlord on the night of 56 June 1944, commemorating several C-47 Skytrain aircraft shot down by German anti-aircraft fire near Picauville and remembering the paratroopers and airmen who were killed. The monument consists of a stone and concrete memorial wall with several black commemorative plaques dedicated to the fallen aircrew and paratroopers. At the center of the wall are the insignia of the U.S. 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, Airborne Troop Carrier units, IX Troop Carrier Command, and the Ninth Air Force. Behind the wall stands a large elevated replica of a C-47 Skytrain mounted on a tall pedestal, symbolizing the transport aircraft used in the airborne assault.
