83rd Infantry Division Headquarters Plaque

To the left of the front door. Plaque
A black marble inscribed plaque.
The plaque remembers the Headquarters location of the 83rd Infantry Division “Thunderbolt” or “Ohio” Division, but informally known as “Rag-Tag Circus" due the use of various vehicles (Military, civilian, and enemy) during the war. The Division was commanded by Major General Robert C. Macon.
The division used this house as its headquarters during the Battle of the Bulge in January 1944.
The Private Henry Tannenbaum Memorial is nearby. A photo of Tannenbaum know as “White Death” was take nearby by the Combat Photographer, Tony Vaccaro, during the Battle of the Bulge.
