On the left beside the town war memorial.
A rectangular, color-printed plaque containing a commemoration message for Major Ross. The inscription on the plaque is written in French in white letters. The images printed images above the message are the flags of the US and France and in the center is a circle with the depiction of the city. The tribute was paid by the commune on May 8, 2011, in the presence of Jean-Marc Legagneu (Mayor), Jean Rabaux (President of the Veterans), and municipal officials.
On April 11, 1944, at 18:15, Major Frank M. Ross, a US Air Force pilot with the 358th Fighter Group, 365th Fighter Squadron on a Thunderbolt P-47D-20-RE (#42-76498), crashed at La Drouais in Nouvoitou in the yard of Mr. Joseph Pellieu after being shot down by the German air defense (flak) of Saint-Jacques de la Lande. The plane fell on the houses of Mrs. Marchand and Mrs. Janvier (36700 francs of damage). His body was removed at 11:00 am the next day by the Germans.
Emile Drouyer was arrested for having stolen the papers, money, watch, and wedding ring of the American pilot who was then in a coma.
