LIBERE LE 13 SEPTEMBRE 1944 PAR LA 2E D.B DU GÉNÉRAL LECLERC,
LA NEUVILLE-SOUS-MONTFORT EST LE THÉÂTRE D'UN DRAME
LE MERCREDI 8 NOVEMBRE 1944
→ Au début de l'après-midi un avion de chasse américain s'écrase au pied du Montfort à proximité du village.
→ Le crash, ses circonstances et le nom du pilote sont restés parmi les événements non élucidés de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.
→ L'avion est un Mustang P 51 piloté par le lieutenant Edward Earl Hunt qui est trouvé mort parmi les débris de l'avion.
→ Parti de l'aérodrome d'Orconte, il escortait des bombardiers qui ont pilonné des objectifs à Schwàbisch Hall (Allemagne)
→ Au retour, entre Nancy et Met, la D.C.A contraint le Lieutenant Hunt et son groupe à faire un écart vers le Sud-ouest, il s'égare dans une épaisse couche nuageuse. Un des équipiers, le lieutenant Frédérick Couch pose son avion près de Mirecourt, Edward Hunt en plein brouillard poursuit son trajet à faible altitude lorsque son avion percute la cime des arbres qui couronnent la colline du Montfort, et s'écrase à 175 mètres du village.
→ C'est là qu'un gamin de 11 ans, Jean Vançon a assisté au crash, il témoignera en 2009.
→ Une prospection sur le terrain en 2012, est suivie par une longue période de recherches et de contacts historiques et généalogiques qui aboutissent en 2016.

LA NEUVILLE-SOUS-MONTFORT IS THE SCENE OF A TRAGEDY
WEDNESDAY 8 NOVEMBER 1944
→ In the early afternoon an American fighter plane crashed at the foot of the Montfort near the village.
→ The crash, its circumstances, and the name of the pilot have remained among the unsolved events of the Second World War.
→ The aircraft was a P-51 Mustang piloted by Lieutenant Edward Earl Hunt, who was found dead among the wreckage of the plane.
→ Departing from Orconte airfield, it was escorting bombers who flew targets at Schwàbisch Hall (Germany).
→ On the way back, between Nancy and Met, the D.C.A forced Lieutenant Hunt and his group to swerve southwest, he got lost in a thick cloud layer. One of the crew, Lieutenant Frédérick Couch, landed his plane near Mirecourt, Edward Hunt in fog continued his low-level flight when his plane hit the treetops crowning the Montfort hill, crashing 175 meters from the village.
→ It was here that an 11-year-old boy, Jean Vançon, witnessed the crash; he testified in 2009.
