Monument

A stone monument made of light grey stone, featuring a rectangular design with an arch-like opening at its base and a central black plaque affixed to its front. The plaque contains a dedication message to Cpt White, T4 Wright, and WOJg Bell, who lost their lives on August 6, 1944, written in French. The displayed insignias represent the 3rd Army on the left, the 90th Infantry Division in the center, and the 357th Infantry Regiment on the right.

The liberation of La Bazouge-des-Alleux occurred on August 6, 1944, during the broader Allied push through Nazi-occupied territory in World War II. On that day, the three American soldiers were ambushed by a German patrol while traveling by Jeep near the "La Vannerie" crossroads.

Captain Paul White, T4 Class Harry Wright, and Warrant Officer Junior Grade William Bell were caught in the ambush. The Germans used machine guns and Panzerfausts, a type of anti-tank weapon. Harry Wright was killed instantly, while William Bell was severely wounded. Captain White, also gravely wounded in the head, was captured by the Germans. To this day, Captain White remains missing in action.
