Plaque
A rectangular white plaque commemorating PFC Richard J. Conway who was Killed in Action on October 4, 1944. The plaque is written in English and French. But, according to ABMC, he died on October 7, 1944.
On October 4, 1944, Conway led a four-man patrol tasked with reconnoitering approaches to a crucial crossroad. He encountered an enemy roadblock guarded by German soldiers equipped with a light machine gun. Displaying bravery, he instructed his comrades to hold back while he advanced on the roadblock, successfully eliminating the threat. However, he was struck down by a hidden sniper shortly after destroying the enemy position. He was killed in action at a crossroads in Frémifontaine. PFC Conway's actions in the war were recognized for their valor, as he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry.
