Monument
An upright stone slab monument bearing a rectangular black plaque in the center commemorating 2Lt Donald E. Burns, who died in the area on August 19, 1944. The plaque, inscribed in French and bearing his photograph, was inaugurated on May 8, 2025.
On August 19, 1944, 2nd Lt. Donald E. Burns was killed when his P-47D Thunderbolt was shot down by enemy flak during a reconnaissance mission over Avignon. He had departed from Poretta Airfield in Corsica, and his aircraft crashed near Plan-d'Orgon, southwest of Cavaillon in southern France.
