33rd Engineer Battalion, 7th Armored DIvsion Crossing of the Seille River Monument
Details:
Just off the roadway south of Sillegny.
A white marble upright monument with the unit crest of the 33rd Engineer Battalion on the front and the 7th Armored Division on the top.
The memorial remembers the 18-23 September 1944 Battle of Sillegny and the 33rd Engineer Battalion attempt to build 4 bridges across the Seille River near this location. The information board mentions many of the battalion were killed and wounded in action. It specifically mentions two soldiers, Staff Sergeant Leo Worthington and Staff Sergeant Charles Panion who were listed as missing in action. SSG Panion has subsequently been recovered and SSG Worthington is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial.
