Isolated Burial
 
An inscribed Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) memorial headstone.
 
Isolated Burial (ISOB) of 1LT James Pedersen who recently transferred from the Royal Canadian Air Force (J/14672) to the US Army Air Force (USAAF), but was awaiting reassignment.  On November 17, 1943 he served as the Navigator on  the Lancaster III  JB226  Gutless Gert    of the 405th Squadron. Mission was to Ludwigshafen flying from Gransden Lodge, Cambridgeshire, England. They were shot down by a night fighter (Fw. Günther Bahr),  near Hochspeyer, Rheinland Pfalz, Germany.
 
The crew members were initially buried in the Hochspeyer Cemetery in grave  They were reburied in the Rheinberg War Cemetery in 1948. 1LT Pedersen is buried next to his cremates.

Flight Sergeant Joseph Paul Henri DUBE (R/55961) Air Gunner. Age 22.
Sergeant John Blackburn ERRINGTON (1080349) Wireless Operator.
Pilot Officer Richard Henry LARSON (J/19262) Pilot. Age 22.
Pilot Officer Robert Douglas MUTCH (J/19183) Air Bomber. Age 20.
Flight Sergeant Gordon John PARTRIDGE (R/134563) Pilot. Age 20.
1st Lieutenant James Morris Kenneth PEDERSEN (O-886137) Navigator. Age 23.
Sergeant Thomas THOMSON (1556094) Flight Engineer. Age22.
Sergeant Edwin Florence UREN (R/180464) Air Gunner. Age 21.
