Isolated Burial

An inscribed Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) memorial headstone commemorating the American Officer, Lieutenant Kenneth Gow of the 107th Infantry Regiment Machine Gun Company, 27th Infantry Divsion.  He was awarded the Distinguished Serice Cross (DSC) for his actions a few weels earlier; he was killed in action on  October 17, 1918.

The DSC Citation:

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Kenneth Gow, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, A.E.F., near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. While supply officer for his company, Lieutenant Gow personally took rations forward with a pack mule through continuous shell and machine-gun fire. When all officers of his company were either killed or wounded, he assumed command and led it forward through heavy shell and machine-gun fire.
