The memorial remember Sergeant Walter M. Sies who was the Flight Engineer on the B-24 (42-95080) 'Super Wolf' of the 790th Bomber Squadron, 467th Bomber Group, which was shot down nearby on February 16, 1945.
The monument marks the location where Sgt Sies was found after his parachute failed to open after bailing out of his aircraft.
