The Allied Forces aimed to prevent the arrival of additional Japanese troops through Ormoc Bay to fight in Leyte, from October 23 to December 11, 1944. The U.S. Fifth Air Force carried out successive bombing attacks against ships transporting Japanese soldiers, marking the beginning of a series of naval engagements from November 1 to 10, 1944. These were followed by Allied offensives against Japanese forces from various directions across Leyte. Allied Forces entered Ormoc Bay on December 7, 1944, and recaptured Ormoc from the Japanese on December 11, 1944. These events formed part of the final Allied operations on Leyte, which concluded on December 25, 1944.
