The plaque is affixed to the rock formation.


Marker

The site honors the seven aviators killed in the crash of a British parachute delivery plane, including one American. Six of the allied aviators are buried at Marcols-les-Eaux. CPT Estes, USAAF, is buried at the Rhone American Cemetery. The plane was delivering arms to the French resistance, and CPT Estes was on the flight for training in Operation Carpetbagger missions.

A le memoire de sept aviateurs des nations unis...qui ont percuté contre ce rocher le 3 novembre 1943 au cours d'un obsure mission apportant les armes liberatrices a leurs camarades de la resistance francaise...pour que vive la France et renaisse la liberte.

English translation:  In memory of seven allied aviators who crashed on these rocks on 3 november 1943 during a secret mission to deliver liberating weapons to their comrades in the French resistane, so that France can live and for the rebirth of liberty.
