CPT Estes was on an initiation flight with the RAF when the plane went down and he was killed. They were delivering weapons to the French resistance. The remainder of the crew is buried on the CWGC plot of the Marcols-les-Eaux town cemetery. Estes was training to begin "Operation Carpetbagger missions with the 801st Bomber Group.
