B-17 (42-29893) 'El Diablo' Crash Marker -379th Bomber Group
Details:
Tucked into the foliage on the northern side of the intersection.
A small vertical stone monument set on a stone base with gold lettering commemorating American aviators.
The memorial members the B-17 (42-29893) 'El Diablo" of the 534th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group shot down near here due to enemy aircraft after a mission to Nantes. Two crew KIA; six POW; 2 evaded.
Another aircraft, B-17 (42-5849) Hell's Belles II of the 384th Bomber Group was also shot down on this mission with a memorial nearby. See site Champeaux.
