Monument
The American Monument stands as the exact replica of the first monument which was blown up by the Germans on 13 December 1941. It consists of a stone column on which stands a bronze eagle with his wings opened with an American soldier on top carrying a sword in his right hand. The new monument was erected by a French committee and was dedicated on 24 June 1989.
Original monument dedicated in 1926 commemorating the landing of American troops in St. Nazaire designed by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney
