Monument
Three concrete steles which hold a plaque mounted at the top and the replica of an airplane fin below. The monument evokes the memory of the crew of the B-17G aircraft which, on January 20, 1945, during a bombing mission on the city of Heilbronn, was hit by the flak and could not reach its base and crashed at the entrance of the village of Hirtzfelden.

Ce jour-la, un bombardier quadrimoteur B-17G Forteresse Volante s'est
ecrase en ce lieu. Il faisait partie du 95eme Bomb Group de la 8eme Air
Force Americaine et portait le matricule 43-38660. L'avion avait decolle de
Horham en Angleterre pour sa 23eme mission de guerre, la 12eme pour
l'equipage du capitaine Conover. La cible, atteinte vers midi, etait la ville
allemande de Heilbronn. Touche par la Flak (DCA) il n'a pas pu rejoindre
sa base. Sur les dix membres de l'equipage, six furent faits prisonniers et
quatre furent tues dans le crash.
Leur moyenne d'age etait de 24 ans.
Passant, n'oublie pas que ces courageux jeunes Aviateurs meritent
notre Respect car ils ont combattu et sont morts pour notre Liberte.
Ce Memorial est le symbole de notre Reconnaissance.

On that day, a B-17G Flying Fortress four-engine bomber crashed in this area. It was part of the 95th Bomb Group of the 8th Air American force and carried the serial number 43-38660. The plane had taken off from Horham in England for his 23rd war mission, the 12th for the crew of Captain Conover. The target, reached around noon, was the German city of Heilbronn. Hit by Flak (DCA) it couldn't reach its base. Of the ten crew members, six were captured and four were killed in the crash.
Their average age was 24 years.
Passing by, don't forget that these brave young Aviators deserve our Respect because they fought and died for our Liberty.
