Monument

A granite gray stone monument dedicated to the Allied forces who liberated the town on August 9 and 10, 1944. The monument is inscribed in both French and English, honoring the contributions of the 80th Infantry Division, the 1st Special Service Force (a combined U.S.-Canadian unit), and the 106th Cavalry Group. The monument also commemorates Corporal Golden and Private Neaveill who were killed during the operation, while French-speaking Canadians provided cultural and language support crucial for cooperation with local forces. Lt. Colonel Oliver Francis led reconnaissance efforts, ensuring the success of the Allied campaign in the region. Together, their contributions played a key role in liberating the area from Nazi control. The insignia of the 80th Division "Blue Ridge" (Europe) and the 1st Special Service Force (also known as the "Devil's Brigade") are displayed at the top.
