Isolated Burial
A stone monument featuring a rectangular black plaque honoring Hall F. Duncan and his role in the area's liberation during World War II. The plaque includes his photograph, the military medals he was awarded, his motto, and the insignia of the 101st Infantry Regiment. The plaque is written in French. The monument also serves as a marker of his isolated burial.
Hall Franklin Duncan served as a Private First Class in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division during World War II. In November 1944, he was wounded while rescuing a fellow soldier during the liberation of Bourgaltroff and Guébling, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. In recognition of his contributions, a town square in Bourgaltroff was named after him in 2018. Honoring his wishes, part of his ashes were interred here.
