When Claude Hawkins was born on August 11, 1894, in Meeker, Oklahoma, his father, Elias, was 40 and his mother, Georgiana, was 22. He had four brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 19, 1918 (at the age of 23) and is now buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma, USA.
