When Ambrose Soren Knudson was born on February 4, 1896, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, his father, Hans, was 44 and his mother, Hannah, was 33. He had three brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 31, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as a Private.
