When Ora V. Lowers was born on May 17, 1898, in Wood, West Virginia, his father, William, was 24 and his mother, Mary, was 21. He had two brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company F, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 18, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
