When John E Burns was born on August 23, 1898, in Wausau, Wisconsin, his father, Patrick, was 37 and his mother, Katherine, was 31. He had four brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 23, 1918 (at the age of 19) and is now buried in Wausau, Marathon, Wisconsin, USA.
