Michael (Mihaly) Labons was born in Hungary about 1895, a son of Michael and Mary Labancz. He immigrated through Ellis Island with his mother and siblings in 1908. His mother was so upset he joined the Army that he used his sister's married name "Barber" when he enlisted in Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Battery B, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. He was Killed in Action on July 23, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
