Samuel D. Durbin was born on Sept. 19, 1923, in East Prairie, and was graduated front high school in Missouri. Pfc. Durbin was with the Company E, 82d Airborne Division, after entering service on Feb. 15, 1943. He died on Dec. 22, 1944. in a field hospital at Trois Ponts, Belgium as a result of wounds received in Holland on Sept. 19, 1944. He had been awarded the Presidential Citation, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star and the French government also awarded a medal.
