When Russell J. Eberhart was born on January 23, 1925, in Mishawaka, Indiana, his father, Russell, was 19 and his mother, Evelyn, was 18. He had two brothers. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1943, and went overseas in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company I, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on January 5, 1945 (at the age of 19) and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
