Fred W. Freeland was born on February 19, 1922. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Smalley. Prior to enlistment in the United States Army on April 3, 1941, he attended Central high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in Company D, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He was Killed in Action on January 3, 1945 (at the age of 22) in Belgium and is now buried in Imperial Memorial Gardens, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado, USA.
