Walter Haupt was born on November 25, 1914, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Chris. He had two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He was Killed in Action on January 3, 1945 (at the age of 30) and is now buried in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois, USA . He also has a cenotaph in Oakhurst Cemetery, Whitehall, Muskegon County, Michigan, USA.
