When Howard S. Nichols was born in 1898, his father, William, was 26 and his mother, Effa, was 19. He had two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Bugler in Company A, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Cobleskill, Schoharie County, New York, USA.
