When George N. Cunion was born in January 1889, his father, Nicholas, was 32 and his mother, Catherine, was 31. He had three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company D, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 18, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument but listed in the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion.
