Haakon M. Amundson was born in October 1889. He entered the military service in South Dakota and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was declared "Missing in Action" on July 18, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument in the MISSING IN ACTION section of the monument.
