Ralph Clifford Black was born on May 19, 1890, in Missouri. He was the son of James Miller Black and Louisa J. Downs Black. He entered the military service in California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument in the MISSING IN ACTION section of the monument.
