William Donald Ahern was born on March 13, 1896 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Machine Gun Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 (at the age of 22) in France and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France and ranked as a Private First Class.
