When Raymond D. Andelstedt was born on October 12, 1895, in Leonardville, Kansas, his father, August, was 36 and his mother, Lydia, was 25. He had one sister. He entered the military service in California and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Machine Gun Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
