When Francis Clement Brooberg was born on June 19, 1894, in South Dakota, his father, Frank, was 35 and his mother, Karin, was 29. He had two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a First Lieutenant in HQ Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on April 7, 1918 in France at the age of 23 and is now buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. He also has a cenotaph in Victory Memorial Drive, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
