When Frank Durham Hazeltine was born on December 22, 1894, in Seattle, Washington, his father, Benjamin, was 37 and his mother, Annie, was 27. He had one brother and two sisters. He entered the military service in Maine and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Second Lieutenant in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on September 12, 1918 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
