Edgar C. Hartford was born in 1892 in Epsom, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. He was the son of Alfred Hiram Hartford and Cora A. Fife Hartford. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in HQ Company, 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 28, 1918 in France and is now buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA.
