Born on 31 August 1907, son of Arthur Edward Ensign and Katherine Mae "Kitty" (Hallock) Ensign. From Pasadena, California. Somehow he became a pilot in the Royal Air Force (Service No. 42823). (His burial is listed at www.cwgc.org) Killed while flying in an Airspeed Oxford R6019 on a positioning flight from Prestwick to Kidlington. The aircraft crashed into a hill at Brynford, near Holywell, Flintshire in poor visibility. Also killed was the pilot Air Transport Auxilary - First Officer Aaga Vademar Helstrup Laursen (f.a.g. ref 138464429 ) (buried nearby) and an unknown passenger.
