Fred Sherman was born on May 8, 1896 in Calais, Washington County, Maine. He enlisted in the Army on June 6, 1917 in Calais and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on June 16, 1918 by a shell fire in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Calais Cemetery, Calais, Washington County, Maine, USA.
