Graduated from Jefferson Medical in Philadelphia in 1904 and then married Marcia P Welleresh in 1908. The couple had 2 children, Clara M. and Orville A. Petty. In December 1916 Petty joined the US Naval Reserve Force as a Liutenant Junior Grade. He later served in the Medical Corps. On June 2 1932 he was found dead in his Philiadelphia home by his family. He was shot in the heart which appeared to be from his own Army service pistol.
