Harold Holmes was born on November 20, 1923 in Fresno, CA. He served in the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron and served in the China-Burma-India Theater.

He was killed in the Battle of Tengchong in China in 1944. He is remembered with a cenotaph in Tengchong, China.

He left a wife, Eleanore, and newborn daughter Charlona, in Fresno. In the 1930 census 6-year-old Harold is living with his parents and siblings Adelbert 12, and Marilyn 10, at 4689 Inyo in Township 3 of Fresno County. His father is a clerk and his mother is a cashier in a department store. In the 1940 census 16-year-old Harold is living with his parents and brother Adelbert 22, at 539 North Fourth Street in Fresno. His father is a janitor at a public school. His mother is a "stamper" at a retail department store. Arthur is a carpenter's helper. Harold graduated from Fresno High School in 1941. His picture is from the 1941 yearbook. Harold enlisted 5 Jan 1943 at Fresno, California. He'd had one year of college and was single without dependents. His occupation was listed as machinist. Harold married Eleanor Shirley Behen in 1943. Daughter Charlona Michel was born 24 Aug 1944 six days after Harold went missing in action on 18 Aug. The twenty seventh troop carrier squadron was constituted as the twenty seventh troop transport squadron on the 19th of January 1942, activated at Daniel Field Augusta, Georgia 24th of February 1942 re-designated as the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron 24th of July 1942. On 21 Mar 1944, the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron was assigned to the 14th Air Force, 69th Composite Wing, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, and based at Sylhet, India (now Bangladesh). On May 21 they moved to Changyi Airfield, Chang Yi, Yunnan, China. T Sgt Holmes was on C-47A 42-118930 piloted by William B Williamson, Jr., last reported position near Mangshi, China, on 18 Aug 1944. The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county show Holmes, Harold P, 39691533, T Sgt, from Fresno County, CA as FOD (Finding of Death) 18 Aug 1944.
