John H. Stokes, Jr. entered the military service in Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Lieutenant in the 2nd US Naval Beach Battalion, United States Naval Reserve. He died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Utah Beach, France. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
