Born March 10, 1888 in West Newton, Massachusetts, son of Samuel Warren Davis and Mary Elizabeth (Washburn) Davis. Older than most of the members of the Lafayette Escadrille, he was looked up to by many. He was transferred to the United States Air Service and went to the front with the 94th Pursuit Squadron. On June 2, 1918, while protecting an English bombing flight, he attacked six German single-seaters and was shot down in Hames within the enemy lines.
