Harry S. Tripp was born in 1918 in Michigan. He enlisted in the National Guard on Oct. 17, 1940. He received his first training at Camp Livingston and at Beauregard, La., and when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor went to the west coast and was stationed there in coastal defense while the remainder of his Red Arrow division went into the Pacific. After two years more training, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on Aug. 28, 1942. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Lieut. Tripp had led his men through the toughest fighting in the Achen area, fighting through the famed Hurtgen Forest, and was with the first patrols to go over the Siegfried Line. He was Killed in Action on November 16, 1944 in Germany and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
